African swine fever spreads throughout Thua Thien-Hue province
VOV.VN - Outbreaks of African swine fever continue to be discovered in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, stated Tran Thi Hoai Tram, chief of the office of the provincial People’s Committee, on August 24.
At present, outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) have been reported in 10,000 households across 109 of a total of 152 communes and wards in nine of the province’s districts.
An estimated 60,340 pigs have been infected with ASF, leading to swine with a combined weight of 3,413,668 kg being culled.
Currently, 18 communes and wards in the provinces have reported no fresh outbreaks of ASF over a 30-day period.
Despite this positive development, many communes and wards suffer from re-outbreaks of the virus following a 30-day period. Locations that have had re-outbreaks include Phong Son in Phong Dien district, Phu Duong and Phu Thanh in Phu Vang district, Vinh Hien in Phu Loc district, and Huong Tho in Huong Tra district.
Due to the impact of the epidemic, the price of pork in Thua Thien-Hue province currently ranges from VND40,000 to VND42,000 per kilo. With the ASF epidemic continuing to spread nationwide, many breeders are concerned enough to have not yet resumed breeding pigs.
Local authorities have encouraged both households and residents to clean up their breeding facilities and take preventive measures aimed at halting the spread of the ASF epidemic.
