Following this incident, Vinh Loc became the province’s final district to declare an ASF epidemic.
According to the provincial Animal Health sub-department, ASF outbreaks have so far spread to 6,272 hamlets across 375 communes in 27 districts and towns, leading to a total of 61,404 pigs being culled in line with current regulations.
Le Duc Giang, director of the Thanh Hoa Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said the epidemic has seen a downward trend in recent times and is expected to slow down during the next six months.
Giang added that the province will limit the transportation and import of piglets and aims to restore pig breeding in the near future.
