5G networks to be commercialized in 2020
Mr. Thieu Phuong Nam, CEO of Qualcomm Indochina, has said the 5G market in the coming years has a lot of potential and would go commercial by 2020.
Nam said that with 5G, telecom networks can provide new services and help users have superior experience over the current 3G or 4G technology.
Specifically, the 5G network will grow in diverse ways and serve many different types of viewers to meet the greater demands of users such as watching ultra high resolution videos on mobile devices. The concept of base stations will no longer exist once devices can be connected together in any position. Many types of connections such as wi-fi and other wireless connections will be incorporated in the common platform of the 5G network.

According to the General Director of Qualcomm Indochina, the 5G network will be commercialized in 2020 in several countries and will be officially named IMT- 2020.
2016 will be year of 4G
Nam also said that in the future, 4G LTE will serve as a catalyst for growth by working as the foundation for new services that benefit the mobile ecosystem as well as consumers.
2016 is the right time for Vietnam to move on 4G because the 4G ecosystem has been relatively complete and the prices for 4G terminals are getting cheaper.
Recently, the Ministry of Information and Communications announced to grant 4G licenses for local businesses in 2016. So far, Vinaphone, Mobifone and Viettel have asked permission to trial 4G services at the bands of 1800MHz, 2300MHz and 2600MHz.
In theory, many experts said that when the number of subscribers reaches about 10-15%, the technology is considered likely to become prevalent.
Mr. Mai Liem Truc - former Deputy Minister of xxxxxxxxxxx, said that if businesses want to test and commercialize 4G technology, the Ministry of Information and Communications should licence because it depends on the capacity of businesses.
Recognizing the strong growth of mobile applications as well as the importance of 3G/4G in the local industry, the government has made significant efforts and has completed the process of arrangement of the band 1800MHz for 4G, opening opportunities for Vietnamese telecom service providers to provide LTE services.
