37 Vietnamese students selected for 2026 regional, international Olympiads
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Education and Training on April 1 announced a list of 37 students selected for Vietnam’s national teams to compete in regional and international Olympiads in 2026.
The teams comprise six students in mathematics, eight in physics, four each in chemistry and biology, and 15 in informatics.
The mathematics, chemistry and biology teams will compete directly at international Olympiads, while the physics and informatics teams will first enter Asia-Pacific contests, from which four top performers will be chosen for global competitions.
VNU Hanoi University of Science (HUS) High School for Gifted Students led with eight selections, including five in informatics, while Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted also had eight.
Earlier, 190 students nationwide took part in the selection round held from March 25–27, mainly drawn from top winners of the national excellent student competition, which attracted more than 6,700 candidates.
Under current regulations, 37 selected students are exempt from high school graduation exams and granted direct university admission. International Olympiad gold, silver and bronze medalists receive cash awards of VND55 million, VND35 million and VND25 million, respectively, with additional local incentives potentially raising total rewards to hundreds of millions of dong.
Since 2021, bronze medalists and above have also been awarded the Labour Order by the President.
From 2016 to 2025, Vietnamese students won 112 gold, 140 silver and 89 bronze medals, along with 21 certificates of merit, at regional and international Olympiads in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and informatics.
