Top 10 Vietnamese scorers in Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad 2026
VOV.VN - The organising board of the Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad (APMO) 2026 has announced the list of the top 10 Vietnamese students who achieved the highest scores in the domestic round of the competition.
The results will be submitted to the international APMO committee for final ranking and medal consideration alongside contestants from other participating countries and territories.
Accordingly, Tran Dai Thanh Danh, Grade 12, High School for the Gifted, Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City ranked first with 27 points.
He was followed by Pham Dang Nguyen, Grade 12, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi, who scored 25 points. Tied at the same score was Nguyen Hoang Phuong, Grade 11, Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Nghe An province.
Other students in the top ten included Phan Thanh Huy, Grade 12, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi (22 points), Tran Anh Quan, Grade 12, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Dien Bien province (21 points), Nguyen Dinh Tung, Grade 12, High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, under the University of Science, Vietnam National University - Hanoi (21 points), and Nguyen Bao Khanh, Grade 11, Lam Son High School for the Gifted, Thanh Hoa province (18 points), along with several other students who also achieved strong results in this year’s contest.
Under APMO regulations, the scores from the national round will be compiled and submitted to the international APMO committee. Based on the combined results from participating countries and territories, the organisers will determine final rankings and award gold, silver and bronze medals.
The Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad is a prestigious competition for high school students from countries around the Pacific Rim, first held in 1989. Each year, around 40 countries and territories take part in the contest, which features five proof-based problems to be solved within four hours.
In 2026, Vietnam assumes the role of the main coordinating country for APMO during the 2026–2028 period. It also hosted the national round, with the participation of 22 outstanding students selected from national mathematics competitions and previous international Olympiad teams.
The results from the national round in Vietnam are expected to contribute to strong performances when compared with contestants from nearly 50 countries and territories participating in this year’s competition.
