350 Vietnamese students graduate from agricultural programme in Israel

Over 500 students, including 350 Vietnamese, graduated from an international training course of Israel’s Ramat Negev Desert AgroResearch Centre (RNDARC) at a ceremony held on June 13.

Speaking at the event, Alon Melchior, manager of the centre’s international training courses, said that the 11- month course was designed for Asian students, giving them an insight into Israel’s modern agriculture.

Trainees could access international standards and state-of-the-art technologies and agriculture management methods, he added.

The RNDARC currently runs 70 agriculture training courses on post-harvest technology, husbandry and management skills in agriculture businesses, among others.

Melchior said that the centre expects to receive 300 trainees for the 2017-2018 course and many Israeli farm owners want to recruit Vietnamese labourers.

Meanwhile, Khuat Van Quyen, First Secretary of the Vietnamese Embassy in Israel, affirmed that Israel is a successful startup country with modern agriculture.

He hoped that the Vietnamese graduates, with knowledge and experience acquired in Israel, will help develop agriculture in their homeland.

Training courses in Israel have attracted thousands of Vietnamese students since 2008, giving them the chance to practice English, receive training in high-tech agriculture and work on farms.

Currently, there are four Israeli centres offering training for Vietnamese students, including AICAT Arava, Ramat Negev, Sdot Negev and Agrostudies.
