18 Vietnamese deported from Cambodia after falling for online job scam
VOV.VN - Eighteen Vietnamese citizens have been repatriated after being deported from Cambodia for illegally residing and working in the country, with many admitting they were lured by online promises of “easy job with high salary.”
According to the Immigration Office of Ho Chi Minh City Police on May 16, authorities coordinated with border forces to receive the Vietnamese citizens handed over by Cambodian authorities through Tan Nam International Border Gate.
Preliminary investigations showed that most of the deported individuals were young, many having dropped out of school early and lacking stable employment.
Several victims were persuaded by recruitment advertisements on social media or encouraged by acquaintances to travel to Cambodia in search of well-paid jobs.
However, after arriving in Cambodia, many were found to be living and working illegally without proper legal documents. They were later detained by Cambodian authorities and deported.
After receiving the citizens, authorities brought them back to Ho Chi Minh City to complete procedures in line with regulations, while also warning the public about illegal overseas recruitment schemes, especially “easy job, high salary” scams on social media.
