17 Vietnamese universities listed in Sustainability Impact Ratings for first time

VOV.VN - UK-based higher education publication Times Higher Education (THE) announced its 2026 Sustainability Impact Ratings on June 24, with a record 17 Vietnamese universities included, marking the first time the country has had 17 institutions in the rankings.

The ratings evaluate universities based on their contributions to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations.

Among the Vietnamese institutions listed were several familiar names that have appeared in previous editions, including Ton Duc Thang University, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Phenikaa University, Duy Tan University and National Economics University.

The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City achieved the highest ranking among Vietnamese universities, placing in the 101-200 group.

Meanwhile, Phenikaa University made a sharp jump from the 1001-1500 group last year to the 401-600 group this year, marking one of the strongest improvements among Vietnamese institutions.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phu Khanh, Vice President of Phenikaa University, said recognition from THE serves as strong encouragement for the university.

He added that beyond rankings and awards, the university’s priority is to create meaningful value for students and society by fostering an environment where learners can generate positive impact and contribute to the community.

This year marks the eighth edition of THE’s sustainability impact ratings. Vietnam’s presence in the ratings has steadily expanded over the years, from just one university in 2019 to 17 institutions in 2026, with both the number and quality of participating universities continuing to improve.
