Vietnamese universities listed in THE World University Rankings by Subject 2026
VOV.VN - Times Higher Education (THE) has released its World University Rankings by Subject 2026, with Vietnamese universities appearing in nine of the 11 subject areas.
They included Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, Computer Science, Education Studies, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical and Health, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences.
Compared to last year, Vietnam added Arts and Humanities to the rankings. Vietnam’s representative in this field was Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), placed in the 601–800 group.
With nine universities making the rankings, Engineering was the most represented field for Vietnam. Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University held the highest positions, both in the 301–400 group, maintaining the same standing as last year. Ho Chi Minh City Open University followed in the 601–800 group.
In Business and Economics, several Vietnamese universities also secured relatively high positions. University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City ranked highest in Vietnam in the 301–400 group, unchanged from last year. Other ranked institutions included Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi), Duy Tan University, Ton Duc Thang University, and VNU-HCM.
Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University were also Vietnam’s top performers across multiple fields, including Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Social Sciences.
In Education Studies, VNU-Hanoi was the only Vietnamese representative listed last year. This year, alongside the university ranked in the 501–600 group, VNU-HCM and Hue University also made the list, both placed in the 601–800 group.
This year, two more Vietnamese universities joined THE’s subject rankings: Da Nang University and Nguyen Tat Thanh University. Nguyen Tat Thanh University ranked particularly well in Medical and Health (501–600) and Life Sciences (601–800).
Globally, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) continued to lead in Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, and Social Sciences. Stanford University topped Education and Law, Harvard University led Engineering and Life Sciences, and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) ranked first in Physical Sciences.
The University of Oxford led Computer Science and Medical and Health, while the University of Cambridge overtook Stanford to claim the top spot in Psychology.
The highest-ranked Asian institutions in 2026 included Tsinghua University and Peking University, which placed 3rd and 7th, respectively, in the Business and Economics category.
