14 Vietnamese universities enter THE World University Rankings 2027
VOV.VN - A record 14 Vietnamese universities have secured spots in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, three more than last year, covering nearly 2,300 institutions across 118 countries and territories.
Vietnam’s highest-ranked institutions were Duy Tan University, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, and Hanoi Medical University, all placed in the 701-800 band.
Ton Duc Thang University was ranked in the 1001-1200 band, down from 601-800 last year. Among the 10 institutions that had previously appeared in the rankings, Hanoi Medical University was the only one to move up.
Four universities made their debut this year: Hanoi Open University, the National Economics University, Can Tho University, and the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City.
Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City Open University, which was placed in the 1201-1500 band last year, did not appear in the 2027 rankings.
This year, THE expanded its ranking bands to 18 from 10 previously, extending the list to the 2000+ band instead of 1501+. Universities are assessed using 18 indicators across five core areas: research quality (30%), teaching (29.5%), research environment (29%), international outlook (7.5%), and industry income (4%).
The University of Oxford in the UK topped the global rankings, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US.
