10th grader bags gold at Int’l Mathematical Olympiad 2020
VOV.VN - Vietnamese students have won two gold medals at the 61st International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2020, finishing 17th out of 105 participating countries.
The two gold medals went to Ngo Quy Dang, a 10th grader, and Truong Tuan Nghia, an 11th grader, of Hanoi National University.
This is the first time a 10th grader has clinched a gold medal for Vietnam at an International Mathematical Olympiad.
In addition, four other Vietnamese students were awarded one silver and two bronze medals, as well as one honourable mention.
A total of six Vietnamese students took part in the contest held virtually from St. Petersburg, Russia, from Sept. 19 - 29. The event, held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, attracted the participation of 616 contestants from 105 countries and territories.
China came in first with five golds and one silver. It was followed by hosts Russia with two golds and four silvers, and the United States with three golds and three silvers.
Winning two golds, one silver, two bronzes and one honourable mention, Vietnam finished 17th overall.
