Vietnamese President highlights special solidarity with Laos

VOV.VN - President Luong Cuong received General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and President Thongloun Sisoulith on January 26, at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi.

At the meeting, President Luong Cuong expressed his pleasure at meeting Thongloun Sisoulith again and extended congratulations on his continued election as General Secretary of the 12th Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.

He noted that the result demonstrates the high level of trust and recognition accorded by the Lao Party, State and people to Thongloun Sisoulith’s important and effective contributions in recent years.

President Luong Cuong stressed that Thongloun Sisoulith’s decision to choose Vietnam as the first country to visit following the successful conclusion of the 12th National Congress of the LPRP carries profound political significance.

He said the visit further shows the strong resolve of the leaders and peoples of both countries to preserve, nurture and advance the relationship of great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion, as well as the close, shoulder-to-shoulder ties between the two Parties, States and peoples throughout their shared history of national liberation, construction and development.

On this occasion, President Luong Cuong congratulated Laos on the successful organisation of the 12th National Congress of the LPRP and on the major, comprehensive achievements recorded by the Lao Party, State and people after 40 years of Doi Moi (renewal).

He reaffirmed that Vietnam consistently offers strong and comprehensive support for Laos and will work closely with the Lao Party, State and people to safeguard, cultivate and further deepen the special solidarity between the two countries.

He emphasised that Vietnam-Laos relations constitute an invaluable shared asset and a strategic anchor for each country’s stability, development and integration, while also representing a historical constant, a source of strength and a driving force to be preserved and passed on to future generations.

Thongloun Sisoulith congratulated the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) on the successful organisation of its 14th National Congress, which adopted a range of important resolutions and orientations for socio-economic development in the new period.

He said he was pleased to pay a State visit to Vietnam in his capacity as Party General Secretary immediately after both Parties had successfully concluded their respective congresses, and expressed appreciation for the warm, thoughtful and cordial reception extended by President Luong Cuong, reflecting the close comradeship and fraternal bonds between the two countries.

The Lao leader also congratulated Vietnam on the tremendous achievements of historic significance recorded throughout its process of national construction and development, and voiced firm confidence that under the CPV leadership, Vietnam will continue to attain further major achievements, advance steadily into a new era, and successfully implement the Resolution of the 14th Party Congress.

Thongloun Sisoulith briefed President Luong Cuong on key outcomes of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, and conveyed his sincere thanks to the Party Central Committee of the CPV and Party General Secretary To Lam for dispatching a special envoy-Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung- to Laos to congratulate the Party immediately after the congress concluded.

On this occasion, Thongloun Sisoulith also updated President Luong Cuong on recent developments in Laos and the outcomes of his talks with Party General Secretary To Lam. He expressed appreciation for Vietnam’s consistent, valuable and timely support for Laos over the years, and reaffirmed his readiness to work with the Vietnamese Party and State to further nurture and promote the relationship of great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion, in a more substantive and effective manner serving each country’s development goals.

The Vietnamese State leader hailed the positive results achieved in Vietnam-Laos cooperation in recent times, adding that bilateral relations continue to expand in a comprehensive and effective manner across multiple fields.

In the context of complex regional and global developments, he underscored the growing importance of strengthened solidarity, close coordination, regular information sharing and closer coordination on positions, to support each other in fulfilling the development objectives of each Party and country.

Discussing future directions, the President said both sides continue to regard strategic cohesion in political relations as a central pillar guiding overall bilateral cooperation. He stated that the two countries will further enhance cooperation in defence and security to help maintain political stability, social order and safety, while accelerating key joint projects, removing obstacles and creating new momentum in economic, trade and investment cooperation.

The two sides also agreed to maintain close coordination in organising commemorative activities marking major national occasions in a practical, effective and substantive manner, and to step up consultation on strategic issues as well as mutual support at multilateral forums.

The two leaders expressed satisfaction and confidence that, building on the firm foundation of their special solidarity- “both comrades and brothers”- together with common high-level perceptions, intertwined interests and achievements to date, Vietnam-Laos relations will continue to deepen in line with development requirements in the new period.
