Vietnamese Party chief’s "bamboo diplomacy" imprint elevates Vietnam's position

The demise of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's is a great loss for the Vietnamese people. The Vietnamese Party leader's policy of "Bamboo Diplomacy" not only helped to elevate the nation’s position, but also brought about benefits to partner countries to create peace and greater stability in the region

This statement was made by Anthony, formerly a former senior editor of Antara news agency, who had written many articles about Vietnam and also reported on numerous events during General Secretary Trong’s visit to Indonesia back in 2017.

The former senior editor of the Antara news agency has visited Vietnam many times, as well as reading and researching a lot about Vietnam. When he learned that General Secretary Trong passed away, he said it was a huge loss for both the Vietnamese people and ASEAN as he had been a major leader of Southeast Asia. Under his leadership, the country had seen strong development, as well as contributing to joint efforts to ensure peace and prosperous development of the regional bloc.

Regarding the Vietnamese Party leader’s own contributions to Vietnam, Anthony expressed his impression of the bold steps carried out in the anti-corruption campaign, along with important policy decisions which helped Vietnam change drastically.

“Under the leadership of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Vietnam's development is very impressive. I have read a lot about Vietnam. The nation has made strong developments in recent times, with a lot of potential, and I hope that the legacy left by the General Secretary will serve a solid foundation for Vietnam to grow further.

I am also very impressed with the General Secretary's fierce and strong anti-corruption campaign with a commitment to a transparent government. This is not only a commitment to the Vietnamese people of a clean government, but also shows the world's determination to eliminate corruption, creating solid trust for foreign investors. The top leaders of a country need to be committed to eliminating corruption for the benefit and prosperity of people," Mohammah Anthony emphasized.

As a journalist who researched and published articles about Vietnamese "Bamboo Diplomacy", the Indonesian scholar said that this diplomatic policy can be viewed as being really effective and is a good exemplary model for many countries to learn from.

“First of all, let's talk about the characteristics of Vietnamese bamboo, namely durable roots, sturdy trunk, and flexible branches. This has been applied effectively in Vietnam's foreign policy amid fluctuations as the nation’s “bamboo policy” is always being flexible and changing to suit trends. This has brought benefits to Vietnam, helping to strengthen relationships with many partners and solidify Vietnam's position,” he went on.

Assessing the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Indonesia, the journalist said that both sides share many things in common in terms of history, culture, and people.

The sound relationship that exists between the two peoples was founded by President Ho Chi Minh and President Sukarno, along with many generations of leaders in an effort to build, preserve, and develop their nations stably across multiple fields.

General Secretary Trong's visit to Indonesia in 2017 was the first by the top leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and by a senior Vietnamese leader since the two countries first established a framework for strategic partnership in 2013. Indeed, it is a continuation of the close-knit and good relationship that exists between the two countries, opening up plenty of opportunities and changes in all aspects of the bilateral relationship over the past time, Anthony added.
