Vietnamese NA legislator’s Singapore visit comes at opportune moment
VOV.VN - The official visit to Singapore from December 1 to December 3 by Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man takes place at the right time and holds great significance.
Assoc. Prof. Vu Minh Khuong of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy under the National University of Singapore made the statement during a recent media interview.
Both nations and their legislators in particular see extremely special potential ahead for future collaboration. The nations share significant similarities in terms of their political systems, thereby allowing the implementation of long-term co-operation strategies.
He emphasised that the potential for synergy between the two countries is immense. Indeed, Singapore represents a successful example of one state rapidly transitioning from a third-world to a first-world nation in a very short period, while Vietnam currently has great potential and momentum to reach the status of a first-world country within the next two decades.
Therefore, strengthening bilateral ties will serve to accelerate Vietnamese progress in the new era, helping it to swiftly become a developed nation. At the same time, Singapore will also benefit greatly from Vietnamese development, further strengthening its position as a leading power in Asia and the world. Last but not least, the growing strategic trust between the two countries, as well as the possibility of upgrading their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, will open up huge collaboration opportunities for both nations, the scholar stressed.
Regarding the top legislator’s visit, Assoc. Prof. Khuong said that this is a practical channel for both sides to exchange experience in building a legal and policy system which is more scientific, concise, simple, and easy to understand.
According to him, the Vietnamese side’s upcoming streamlining of its apparatus must begin with the legal framework. Consequently, the trip will undoubtedly provide valuable legal experience to lay the foundation for building an efficient public administration system, thereby helping develop human resources, ranging from senior officials to younger generations, with the ultimate goal of fostering generations of elite leaders who will drive the changes of the era.
Additionally, the legal framework will help to promote the economy, especially as Singapore needs Vietnam in the two key areas of green energy and food security, while the Vietnamese side greatly values opportunities in Singapore, particularly for attracting foreign investment.
NA Chairman Man’s visit to Singapore comes at a very opportune time, just before the nation prepares for significant reforms, the expert emphasized.
Concerning the potential that exists for bilateral investment co-operation, he highlighted that if the two countries connect with each other, then they will form a unified economic entity for attracting foreign investment, particularly in terms of high-tech industries such as new energy, semiconductors, and biotechnology.
