Top legislators of Vietnam and Singapore hold talks

VOV.VN - Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man held talks with Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore Seah Kian Peng on December 2 within his official visit to the city island state.

The host leader stated that 50 years on from establishing diplomatic ties and more than a decade since they set up their Strategic Partnership, both sides have seen ties constantly develop across multiple fields and via the Party, State, Government, parliament, and people-to-people exchange channels.

The two nations share strategic visions, strong trade and investment ties, as well as close relations between their people.
The Vietnamese NA leader congratulated Singapore on the various achievements it has recorded over the recent past, showing confidence that the country will continue securing more significant accomplishments in its national development process whilst having an increasingly prominent position in both regional and international arenas.

He underscored that the Vietnamese side consistently regards Singapore as a leading partner in the region, particularly given their shared visions and strategic interests.

In a spirit of sincerity and openness, the two leaders engaged in in-depth discussions on major orientations and measures specifically aimed at stepping up bilateral ties and elevating mutual relations forward.

They agreed that political and diplomatic co-operation has continued to play a key role in orienting the joint relationship through strengthened delegation exchanges and meetings at all levels.

The top Vietnamese legislator showed his gratitude and therefore asked for further support from the Singaporean side for the purpose of Vietnamese strategic personnel development.

Affirming economic and trade links to be a crucial pillar of bilateral relations, the two leaders were unanimous to create favourable legal frameworks and fast-track the supervision of the implementation of signed agreements and pacts, particularly those in the green economy, the digital economy, clean energy, cybersecurity, and innovation.

Furthermore, they reached a consensus on bolstering collaboration in traditional fields such as infrastructure development, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. They also explored the prospect of stronger security and defence ties; identified opportunities for enhanced dialogue mechanisms; exchanges between their respective navies, armies, and air forces; cybersecurity collaboration; and maritime environmental protection through the use of new technologies.

To achieve more substantive co-operation between the two legislatures, they underlined the necessity to continue effective implementation of bilateral co-operation agreements, thereby helping develop the Vietnam – Singapore Strategic Partnership to new heights soon.

They said that the main focus should be placed on information and experience sharing regarding the completion of the institutions, policies, and legal system, whilst also ensuring macroeconomic stability and enhancing the efficiency of international integration.

NA Chairman Man used this occasion to ask the Singaporean parliament to issue policies aimed at creating the optimal conditions possible for Vietnamese enterprises and people to conduct business, work, and study in the country as a contribution to developing bilateral relations, as well as socio-economic development in the host nation.

Regarding international and regional issues of shared concern, they consented to bolster co-operation and support for each other at multilateral forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Asia – Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), and the UN, thus further contributing to improving their positions and prestige in the region and the world.

They shared a similar viewpoint on building and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for greater development in the Asia – Pacific region. Both leaders concurred to maintain and ensure security and safety of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, as well as peacefully settling disputes based on international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982.

NA Chairman Man invited Speaker Seah and his spouse to visit Vietnam in the near future, with the latter accepting the invitation with pleasure.

The same day, NA Chairman Man, his spouse, and the delegation paid floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his statue at the Asian Civilisations Museum.
