Vietnamese embassies in Thailand, Cambodia hold National Day celebrations

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese embassies in Thailand and Cambodia held separate ceremonies on August 30 to mark the 78th anniversary of the August Revolution on August 19 and the upcoming National Day on September 2.

Upon addressing the event held in Bangkok, Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh said that for the last 78 years, the nation has continuously stepped up peace and co-operation in Asia, as well as in the wider world, becoming a reliable partner and responsible member of the global community.

The country is therefore willing to join efforts in dealing with global issues towards inclusive sustainable development and humanities.

Ambassador Thanh highlighted Vietnam as one of the most dynamic and open emerging economies in East Asia, along with being an investment hub in the region. Meanwhile, Thailand represents a particularly important friend and partner of the Vietnamese side.

He said that this year marks the 10th anniversary since the establishment of the two countries’ strategic partnership and the 47th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Bilateral ties and all-around co-operation have also grown stronger than ever, the diplomat said, affirming that this is a valuable asset which both sides should cherish and nurture together.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Sarun Charoensuwan affirmed that over the past four decades, the relationship between both sides has become increasingly stronger and bringing about mutual benefits to both.

Permanent Secretary Sarun also expressed appreciation for the Vietnamese-Thai community for making positive contributions in promoting social development within the local community, thereby serving as a bridge linking the two economies.

Meanwhile, at a ceremony held in Phnom Penh, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang reviewed major milestones in Vietnamese history and its achievements during its national defence and development.

The country has always steadfastly adhered to independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, co-operation and development, diversification, multilateralisation, and deep integration into the region and the world. It has also actively worked alongside other ASEAN member nations to build a harmonious and prosperous ASEAN Community.

Regarding the relationship with Cambodia, Ambassador Tang emphazised that the two countries have stood side-by-side in overcoming hardships to gain independence; build, protect, and develop the country.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sok Chenda Sophea, speaking on behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, hailed  the sacrifice and determination of the Vietnamese people in the struggle for independence and reconstruction of the country under the clear-sighted leadership and strategic vision of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

He affirmed that Cambodia and Vietnam will continue to strengthen relations across multiple fields and at all levels, based on solidarity, mutual trust, and understanding.
