Vietnamese embassies abroad hold solemn respect-paying services for Party chief
VOV.VN - Many Vietnamese embassies abroad have solemnly held two-day respect-paying services and opened funeral books to commemorate comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).
Vietnamese embassies in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh solemnly held two-day memorial services and opened condolence books in memory of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, at the embassy’s headquarters.
In Sri Lanka, at the beginning of the ceremony, Ambassador Trinh Thi Tam and embassy staff burned incense and observed a minute of silence to commemorate and bid last farewell to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
In his speech, the Ambassador emotionally recalled some major features of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong's life and career. Many Sri Lankan leaders came to pay tribute to, expressed their commiserations and were deeply moved when recalling the memories they had with the General Secretary.
Notably, the delegation of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka led by G. Weerasinghe, General Secretary of the Party, alongside the Politburo members showed their deepest condolences on the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, an outstanding leader of Vietnam and the world communist movement.
G. Weerasinghe, on behalf of the delegation, wrote in the funeral book, “The Communist Party of Sri Lanka will always stand side by side with the Communist Party of Vietnam.”
Earlier, the Communist Party of Sri Lanka flew the flag at half-mast at its headquarters to commemorate the Vietnamese Party chief.
Also on July 25-26, the Vietnamese Embassy in Bangladesh set up an altar, hoisted flags at half-mast, held a memorial service, and opened a condolence book in commemoration of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Bangladesh Nguyen Manh Cuong and all embassy officials, employees, the Vietnamese community in Bangladesh observed a minute of silence to bid last farewell to the Vietnamese Party leader.
In his address, Ambassador Nguyen Manh Cuong outlined the biography, revolutionary spirit, personality, career and great contributions by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the cause of national construction and development.
On July 25, the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations solemnly organized a memorial service for the Party General Secretary in the presence of all leaders, officials, staff of the Mission and agencies in New York.
Speaking emotionally at the respect-paying ceremony, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN recalled the memory of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's visit to the delegation in July 2015, expressing his utmost respect for the Party chief’s keen interest in foreign affairs in general and multilateral diplomacy in particular, including the United Nations.
In front of the photo of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang affirmed that all leaders, officers and staff of the delegation and agencies in New York pledge to continue to unite and strive to follow the virtuous example of the General Secretary, always putting the interests of the country and the people first, while promoting the identity of Vietnamese bamboo diplomacy as a contribution to the country's continuous development, with an increasingly important position and role in the international arena.
On the same day, the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations welcomed more than 50 delegations who came to pay their last respects and wrote in the condolence book to express their respects, condolences and gratitude to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Vietnamese embassies in China, Japan, India, the Czech Republic, France and Saudi Arabia also opened two-day respect-paying ceremonies and condolence books for Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
In Tokyo, representatives from diplomatic missions of China, India, Cambodia, Laos, Russia, the US, various Japanese government agencies and organisations, Japanese friendship associations and Vietnamese associations, students and workers living offered incense in commemoration of the late Party leader and sign the condolence book.
Representatives of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese and Vietnamese Embassy staff, along with hundreds of overseas Vietnamese, expressed their deep gratitude to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, an outstanding leader who made great contributions throughout his whole life to the cause of the Party, the country and the happiness of the people.
The Vietnamese ambassadors all affirmed that the Party General Secretary's passing is a great loss to the Party, State and people of Vietnam, leaving deep sorrow for compatriots nationwide and international friends.
