Cambodian leaders commemorate Vietnamese Party General Secretary in Phnom Penh
VOV.VN - Senior leaders of Cambodia paid their respects to Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at a funeral service held at the headquarters of the Embassy of Vietnam in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on July 25.
Among the leaders on hand were Samdech Heng Samrin, Honorary President of the Cambodia People’s Party, Khuon Sodary, and Chairwoman of the National Assembly.
Writing in the condolence book, Heng Samrin noted that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong devoted his entire life to the independence, peace and development of Vietnam. He was a person who was close to Cambodia, and greatly contributed to promoting the fraternal friendship and strong cooperation between the Parties, Governments and people of the two countries.
Meanwhile, Khuon Sodary wrote that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was an outstanding leader with far-sighted vision, who has left behind invaluable achievements. She affirmed that the image of the General Secretary will live forever in the hearts of Cambodian people.
In a telegram of condolence to the ceremony, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni expressed his sadness over the passing of Nguyen Phu Trong, saying that the General Secretary was an outstanding leader who actively contributed to the cause of national construction and development of Vietnam.
President of the Cambodian People’s Party Hun Sen, who is also President of the Senate, flew to Hanoi to pay tribute to the deceased Vietnamese leader on July 25 morning.
Ambassadors and charge d'affaires of embassies of countries in Cambodia such as China, Japan, Russia, Cuba, the United States and Pakistan called at the embassy headquarters and wrote in the condolence book to honor the great contributions of the General Secretary to strengthening Vietnam’s friendship and cooperation with their countries. They also expressed their condolences to the Party and State of Vietnam, as well as the family of the late Party leader over the loss.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong passed away in Hanoi on July 19 at the age of 80 due to his old age and serious illness.
