Vietnam to promote its dynamism at WEF meeting in China: official

The 15th World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting of the New Champions, to take place in Dalian city, China’s Liaoning province next week, will offer an opportunity for Vietnam to promote its socio-economic achievements, and spread the message of a dynamic and innovative Vietnam, and an attractive destination for global groups, an official has said.

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Thanh Binh told the press ahead of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s trip to China for the meeting and working sessions from June 24-27 that Chinh is among the few government heads invited by the WEF and host China to attend the event for two consecutive years.

This demonstrates the importance they attach to Vietnam’s position, role and contributions to global economic growth, as well as the country’s development vision for the future economy, the official stressed.

The meeting will help Vietnam get an insight into new matters, trends and impulses of the global economy, and exchange views on development mindsets and governance at national and global levels, he continued.

Vietnam would use the occasion to step up exchanges and relations with other countries, partners and international organizations, and affirm its role and position in the international community, contributing to effectively implementing the foreign policy set at the 13th National Party Congress, the official said.

According to Binh, the PM will hold talks and bilateral meetings with high-ranking leaders of China, which play an important role in enhancing political trust and materializing common perceptions and high-level agreements between the two sides.

Notably, PM Chinh will deliver a special speech at the opening session, together with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and other foreign leaders, Binh said, adding that the Vietnamese leader will also make remarks at sessions and chair dialogues with businesses.

The Deputy Minister expressed his belief that Chinh’s attendance will significantly contribute to the meeting’s success, explaining that the PM will share Vietnam’s views on prospects, opportunities and challenges to the world economy for both short and long terms, propose solutions to optimize potential and strengths of the Asia-Pacific, and call for cooperation and joint efforts of the WEF and partners, especially in priority and new spheres like artificial intelligence (AI), science-technology, and innovation.
