Vietnam to be among 20 largest economies globally, WEF founder expects

VOV.VN - World Economic Forum (WEF) founder Klaus Schwab hailed Vietnam’s development potential, expecting the country would become one of the 20 largest economies in future.

Meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Davos, Switzerland, on January 16 afternoon, Schwab said the Vietnamese economy is developing rapidly, focusing on high tech and manufacturing industries and green growth.

As being home to many successful startups, the WEF founder, who is also executive chairman of the WEF, believed Vietnam would be among the top 20 largest economies in the world in the near future.

He said the strategic vision and initiatives put forward by the Prime Minister at the policy dialogue and panel discussion conveyed important messages and solutions for responding to challenges and restoring global trust.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for his part highly appreciated the WEF meeting 2024’s theme “Rebuilding trust”, saying this is a practical, appropriate topic in the current context, helping to strengthen trust, promote international solidarity, and inspire every country to join hands for the common development.

He thanked the forum and Professor Schwab personally for their close and effective cooperation with Vietnam over the years, especially in the context of global uncertainties. He spoke highly of the WEF’s assistance and support in providing consultations, developing policies, and connecting with WEF businesses to attract high-quality foreign investment into Vietnam.

Vietnam is ready to coordinate with the WEF to organize mid-term conferences in the country to enhance connectivity and promote the WEF’s role in the region, he told the professor.
