Vietnam deeply concerned about Venezuela situation: spokesperson

VOV.VN - Vietnam has expressed deep concern over the current situation in Venezuela, according to spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang on January 3.

Vietnam calls on all relevant parties to respect international law and the United Nations Charter, particularly the principles of respect for national sovereignty and the non-use or threat of force in international relations, Hang said in response to reporters’ question regarding the situation in Venezuela.

Vietnam also urges the parties to exercise restraint, engage in dialogue, and resolve disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law, contributing to peace, security, stability, and cooperation in the region and globally, she said.

In light of the complex security situation in Venezuela, which may pose risks to citizens, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 3 advised Vietnamese nationals to carefully consider travel to the country at this time.

Earlier, the Vietnamese Embassy reported that 29 staff members of Vietnamese diplomatic missions and their families, along with two Vietnamese construction engineers and two members of the Vietnamese community in Venezuela, were safe following US strikes on the South American country.

The embassy has established an emergency communication channel to monitor developments, recommended Vietnamese nationals not to leave their residences, and is providing regular updates through this channel.

For assistance if needed, citizens are advised to contact the Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela at +58 212 635 7402 or vnemb.ven@mofa.gov.vn; or the Consular Department at +84 981 84 84 84 or baohocongdan@gmail.com.
