Vietnam, Laos military leaders agree on closer cooperation in training, border security

During the meeting, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien expressed his pleasure at returning to Laos in his new position. He thanked General Khamlieng Outhakaysone conveyed greetings and best wishes from Minister of National Defence Phan Van Giang, along with an invitation for the Lao Minister to attend the military parade marking the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day.
Outhakaysone congratulated Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien on his recent appointment by the Party, State, and Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam as Deputy Minister of National Defence. He expressed his belief that, in his new role, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien would work with leaders of both defence ministries to further nurture the great friendship between the two Parties, States, and peoples of Laos and Vietnam, particularly between the two militaries.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of defence cooperation in recent years and agreed to continue implementing the 2025 cooperation plans in a substantive and effective manner. They affirmed that the two militaries must strengthen information sharing and coordination to counter hostile forces seeking to undermine the Vietnam–Laos relationship and their defence ties.
The two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation in human resource training, especially high-quality personnel in fields such as information technology and digital transformation, and step up joint efforts to safeguard the shared border; and promote communication and education to help younger generations in both countries better understand and carry forward the Vietnam–Laos great friendship.
General Khamlieng Outhakaysone affirmed that despite changes in the regional and global situation, the armies and peoples of both countries would remain united and supportive of one another. He also confirmed that the Lao Ministry of National Defence would send personnel to participate in the military parade marking Vietnam’s 80th National Day.
On this occasion, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien expressed his appreciation and called on the Lao Government and army to continue creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese businesses, including military-run enterprises, to invest and operate in Laos, thereby contributing to Laos’s socio-economic development and further reinforcing the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, peoples, and militaries of Vietnam and Laos.
