Vietnam and Laos hold political consultation in Vientiane
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong paid an official visit to Vientiane on July 8 – 9 where he also co-chaired the 10th Political Consultation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and Laos.

During the consultation, both sides exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern and shared updates on each country’s situation. They expressed satisfaction with the regular exchanges, coordination, and mutual support at multilateral forums, especially within ASEAN, the United Nations, and the Mekong sub-regional framework.
Both sides highly valued the increasingly close and trusted cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries. Based on the Cooperation Agreement for the 2021–2025 period, the two ministries have maintained regular consultation mechanisms, thereby laying a solid foundation for enhancing the effectiveness of economic diplomacy in each country.
Looking ahead, the two ministries agreed to continue coordinating closely in preparing for upcoming major diplomatic events and strengthening cooperation across various sectors. They also discussed preparations for the next Ministerial-level Political Consultation scheduled for late 2025 and agreed to hold the 11th Deputy Ministerial Political Consultation in Vietnam in 2026.
While staying in Vientiane, the Vietnamese diplomat paid courtesy calls on Lao Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, Minister of Finance Santiphab Phomvihane, and Acting Head of the Lao Party Central Committee’s External Relations Commission Bounleua Phandanouvong.
At these meetings, Cuong praised Laos’ recent development achievements and affirmed the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry’s readiness to closely coordinate with its Lao counterparts. He emphasised the importance of strengthening Party-to-Party, State-to-State, and people-to-people diplomacy between the two countries, enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest, and fostering collaboration at multilateral forums.
