Vietnam keen to connect with Denmark in implementing renewable energy project

Emphasizing Denmark's comprehensive cooperation and support for Vietnam over the years, especially in the fields of the environment and climate, the Deputy Prime Minister said that Vietnam is actively implementing the Fair Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) Agreement based on cooperation with G7 countries, Denmark and international partners.

The implementation is focused on converting coal power to clean energy, developing an industrial and service ecosystem for renewable energy, upgrading the power transmission and distribution system, accelerating a smart power grid building roadmap and developing energy storage systems.

"Denmark can share experience, provide technological and financial support for Vietnam to carry out initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, green transformation, and fair energy transition," the Deputy Prime Minister said.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that Vietnam is finalizing a plan to implement Power Plan 8 with the task of planning power sources based on the growth needs of the economy; appropriate structure, balance and stability between types of power sources (thermal power, hydropower, solar power, wind power), ensuring system safety as well as optimizing investment and economic efficiency.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, solutions to store electricity, produce and use green hydrogen, green ammonia or combine with hydroelectric storage of renewable energy sources all require technology.

Therefore, Vietnam wants Denmark to support tools, experts, technology, and solutions to finalize the implementation of the Eight National Power Development Plan (PDP8) , maximize renewable energy development, and quickly convert from fossil energy to renewable energy, Runevad said.

In addition, the Vietnamese Government is researching and promulgating new mechanisms and policies on electricity to promote clean energy, market-based electricity trading, including direct electricity trading...

The Deputy PM said he hopes that in the coming time, the two sides will continue to prioritize cooperation in the field of green economy, fine-tuning the legal system on electricity, energy, circular economy, and carbon market and connect businesses of the two countries in implementing renewable energy projects.

Regarding some specific proposals of Vestas Group leaders, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Eight National Power Development Plan (PDP8) does not limit the development of renewable power sources for exports, hydrogen production, and direct electricity trading.

Chargé d'affaires of the Danish Embassy in Vietnam Mette Ekeroth affirmed that the establishment of a Green Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Denmark is extremely important for the two countries to raise their cooperative relationship to new heights in sustainable development, climate change and green transition, and energy transition.

Denmark is also proud to be a partner providing expert and technical support to help Vietnam develop an energy outlook report, aiming to soon deploy PDP8, with commitments within the JETP framework.

Appreciating the priority of developing the renewable energy industry in PDP 8, Vestas Group President Anders Runevad said that the Group has established a business in Vietnam, successfully installing about 1,400 MW of wind power turbines.

Vestas wishes to continue to contribute to the strategy of making Vietnam a regional renewable energy industry center with the participation of equipment manufacturing companies and wind power project developers, he said.
