Vietnam, Denmark hold 2nd political consultation

VOV.VN - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang and State Secretary for Trade and Global Sustainability at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lina Gandløse Hansen co-chaired the second political consultation between the two foreign ministries on February 26 in Hanoi as both sides compared notes on bilateral ties and regional and international issues of shared concern.

Deputy Minister Hang assessed that mutual relations have seen positive developments across a variety of fields in recent times, especially through increased delegation exchange activities and high-level meetings, as well as closer co-operation and mutual support at international and regional forums.

Exchange visits made by senior leaders of the two countries have created a basis for deepening the comprehensive partnership, as well as effectively implementing the newly-established Green Strategic Partnership framework.

The Vietnamese diplomat affirmed that the nation attaches great importance to strengthening friendly relations and comprehensive partnership with Denmark, with a particular focus on co-operation in strategic priority areas between the two sides.

​In response, State Secretary Hansen told her host that the Danish Government greatly values the co-operative ties with Vietnam and is ready to expand effective and practical ties in multiple fields, thereby creating a solid foundation for elevating the co-operative relationship to a higher level in the time ahead.

The Danish diplomat also noted her appreciation for Vietnamese guidelines, policies, and measures for socio-economic development and international economic integration, adding that as the nation’s major trade and investment partner in Northern Europe, Denmark hopes that the two sides will continue to offer favourable conditions for the two countries' businesses to invest in each other's markets, especially in areas where Denmark has both experience and strength.

This brings about benefits to the business communities and people of the two nations, as well as supporting the two economies with recovery and sustainable development in the context of fluctuating world situation.

Regarding orientations for future co-operation between the two countries over the coming time, the two foreign ministries agreed to intensify delegation exchange at all levels, especially high-level ones, and to co-ordinate to effectively deploy action plans within the Comprehensive Partnership and Green Strategic Partnership frameworks.

This is in addition to effectively organizing consultation activities between the two foreign ministries to enhance mutual understanding and trust, the role of effective ties and connection between ministries, sectors, agencies, and organisations, of the two countries.

​The two sides consented to continue to boost closer ties and offer mutual support at UN agencies and organisations, strengthen co-operation between ASEAN and Denmark and at inter-parliamentary forums, thereby contributing to peace, collaboration, and development in the region and the world.

​In the key areas of trade and investment, they concurred to encourage businesses to ramp up ties, especially in carrying out large-scale investment projects related to green growth, the circular economy, the marine economy, and renewable energy in accordance with Vietnam's sustainable socio-economic development priorities and strategies.

Deputy FM Hang asked the Danish side to have a voice in urging the parliaments of the remaining EU member countries to swiftly ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), thereby facilitating equal investment co-operation for mutual benefit.

She also expressed her hope that Denmark would support the European Commission (EC)' early removal of illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing (IUU) yellow card warning placed against Vietnamese seafood exports, while also helping the country to develop aquaculture towards sustainable fisheries.

The two sides underlined the important role of Vietnam and Denmark as founding members of Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) summit and agreed to co-ordinate closely to organise successfully the P4G Summit to be hosted by Vietnam ahead in 2025.

​At the meeting, both diplomats discussed orientations and measures aimed at implementing existing co-operation agreements and proposed new joint activities between the two countries in the fields of agriculture, education and training, health, science - technology, security - defence, traffic - transportation, and people-to-people exchanges as a contribution to ensuring effective and practical ties in all spheres under the comprehensive partnership framework.

The two sides exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concern, such as conflict hot spots in the Gaza and Red Sea, as well as the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Concerning the East Sea issue, both sides emphasized their support for ASEAN’s stance and central role in ensuring security, safety, and freedom of aviation and navigation in the East Sea, as well as resolving disputes by peaceful measures on the basis of respect for international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
