Vietnam desires to boost all-around cooperation with US for common interests

Party General Secretary To Lam made the statement at a reception in Hanoi on February 13 for US Assistant Secretary of State Michael DeSombre during his official visit to Vietnam.
At the meeting, Assistant Secretary of State Michael DeSombre thanked the Party leader for the meeting, saying that he was honored to visit Vietnam, and conveyed congratulations from US President Donald Trump to General Secretary To Lam on his re-election and on the successful conclusion of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
The Party chief said the 14th National Party Congress had concluded successfully, marking a milestone that opens a new stage in the country’s development. He also conveyed his thanks to President Donald Trump for sending a congratulatory letter on the success of the Party congress.
He welcomed Assistant Secretary of State Michael DeSombre’s visit and acknowledged the role of the US Department of State in promoting positive momentum in Vietnam-US relations in recent years.
General Secretary To Lam reaffirmed that Vietnam will continue to pursue a consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations, and act as a responsible member of the international community, ready to contribute actively to regional and global issues.
He affirmed that the US attaches importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam, supports a strong, independent and prosperous Vietnam, and wishes to enhance strategic-level cooperation with Vietnam in both bilateral relations and regional and international issues.
Michael DeSombre thanked Vietnamese ministries and agencies for the outcomes of his working meetings during the visit and said he would continue to contribute to the development of substantive Vietnam-US relations in the period ahead.
