Vietnam and Laos break ground on friendship park symbolizing special ties
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Lao counterpart Sonexay Siphandone on January 10 attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Park project in Vientiane, a symbol of the special solidarity between the two nations.
The event was part of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to Laos and his co-chairing of the 47th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee for Bilateral Cooperation.
The Laos-Vietnam Friendship Park spans over 30,000 square meters in Xaythany district, Vientiane, which is planned as a new urban center following the city’s expansion. At the park's center is a square with an artificial lake, surrounded by green spaces.
A highlight of the park is the central square, where a relief depicts historical and cultural elements of Laos, with the national flags of Laos and Vietnam flying above. The focal point is a statue cluster featuring three prominent leaders: President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane, and President Souphanouvong.
The park is a gift from the Party, State, and people of Vietnam to their Lao counterparts. Upon completion, the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Park will combine modernity with historical and cultural elements, offering aesthetic appeal and beautiful scenery. It will serve as a space for recreation, events, and educating future generations about the revolutionary traditions and the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
Speaking at the ceremony, Thongsalith Mangnomek, Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and Chief of its Office, emphasized that the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Park symbolizes the era-long bond between the two countries. This relationship has been cultivated over generations, reflecting a deep-rooted tradition of solidarity.
Laos and Vietnam, as neighboring countries sharing the Truong Son mountain range and the Mekong River, have supported each other through various historical periods. Presidents Kaysone Phomvihane, Souphanouvong, and Ho Chi Minh are revered leaders who played pivotal roles in the struggles for national independence and fostering the two countries’ friendship. Their contributions are forever etched in the histories of both nations.
The decision by the two Parties and governments to build this project holds profound significance, with the statues of the three leaders taking center stage as the park’s key feature.
According to Thongsalith Mangnomek, once completed, the project will be the greenest and most beautiful park in Vientiane. It will not only provide a recreational space for residents but also serve as a venue for educating future generations about the heroic history and enduring friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
The project management board is committed to making the park a model project, ensuring it is completed on schedule with the highest quality. On this occasion, the Lao Party and Government expressed their gratitude to Vietnam for its contribution to this meaningful project.
