United States celebrates 25 years of partnership with Vietnam

VOV.VN - The US Embassy in Hanoi and US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations with Vietnam in a series of gala events hosted in both cities on October 9.

The US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink in Hanoi and Consul General Marie Damour in Ho Chi Minh City were joined by Vietnamese government officials, business and community leaders, educators, and alumni of US Government-funded exchange programs, all of whom have played an important role in shaping the strong bilateral partnership that the United States and Vietnam enjoy today.

Speaking at one of the events in Hanoi, Ambassador Kritenbrink said, “Everything we have achieved has been built on the courage, goodwill, and painstaking work of those who came before us. The partnership we share today is the result of countless actions taken by dedicated individuals on both sides who believed in the possibility of peace.”

The remarks of Ambassador Kritenbrink and guest of honor Acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long were streamed live, connecting simultaneous events taking place in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

In Ho Chi Minh City, Consul General Damour was joined by guest of honor Le Thanh Liem, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee. In her remarks, Consul General Damour also underlined the importance of the US-Vietnam relationship.

“This year the United States and Vietnam celebrate 25 years of partnership in our bilateral relations.  We have come a long way together, but thanks to hard work on all sides I’m proud to say that the US-Vietnam relationship is the strongest it has ever been,” Consul General Damour said.

October 9’s gala events were among the many events planned by both countries this year to celebrate this important milestone in the US-Vietnam bilateral relationship and the fact that now, in areas as diverse as trade, development, education, health care, energy, and security, the United States and a strong, prosperous, and independent Vietnam are working together with a shared commitment to peace and prosperity.
