Sultan of Brunei arrives in Hanoi for state visit to Vietnam
VOV.VN - Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Haji Hassanal Bolkiah arrived in Hanoi on the afternoon of November 30, beginning a state visit to Vietnam from November 30 to December 2, at the invitation of President Luong Cuong.
Those in welcoming the delegation at Noi Bai International Airport included head of the Presidential Office Le Khanh Hai, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brunei Tran Anh Vu, and Hanoi People’s Committee Vice Chairman Nguyen Manh Quyen, among others.
Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah was appointed Crown Prince in 1961. Following the abdication of his father, Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, he was proclaimed Sultan of Brunei Darussalam on October 5, 1967, and was crowned the 29th Sultan and Head of State of Brunei Darussalam on August 1, 1968.
According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Tran Anh Vu, the visit reaffirms the two countries’ determination to continue strengthening and deepening their friendship and cooperation across all fields since bilateral ties were upgraded to a Comprehensive Partnership in 2019.
During the visit, both sides will review the implementation of cooperation under the Plan of Action for the Comprehensive Partnership for the 2023-2027 period, which was adopted during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Brunei in February 2023.
The visit also provides an opportunity to discuss measures to consolidate and expand cooperation in key and priority areas, including politics-diplomacy, national defence–security, energy, Halal industry, tourism and people-to-people exchanges, as well as other areas of shared interest.
For Brunei, the visit shows the importance it attaches to Vietnam and the enduring friendship between the two countries, with Vietnam regarded as a trusted partner within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
For Vietnam, hosting the Sultan contributes to the implementation of the Party and State’s foreign policy that prioritizes relations with ASEAN member states, strengthens all-around cooperation between Vietnam and Brunei, and contributes to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.
