Vietnam prioritises comprehensive preparations for APEC 2027: Deputy PM

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son has underscored hosting APEC 2027 as a national priority, calling for thorough preparations to ensure success and cement Vietnam’s imprint in the Asia-Pacific.

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son, Chairman of the National Committee for APEC 2027, chaired its first plenary session on August 21 at the Government Headquarters, attended by leaders and representatives of 18 ministries and agencies.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son stressed that hosting APEC 2027 is a foremost national political and diplomatic priority, as part of implementing Directive No. 25 of the Party Secretariat on promoting and elevating multilateral diplomacy through 2030.

He underscored that this is an opportunity for Vietnam to demonstrate its role, responsibility, and strategic position in economics and trade, while contributing to shaping the new global economic order.

The Committee Chairman emphasized that the overarching task is to ensure the comprehensive success of APEC 2027, from agenda to protocol, logistics, communications, and cultural events, leaving a lasting imprint of Vietnam while delivering practical benefits to people and businesses, and contributing to peace, prosperity, and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific.

On behalf of the Committee, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang, Standing Vice Chair, presented the work plan for 2025–2027 along with key tasks through the end of 2025.

These include developing the theme, priorities, and initiatives for APEC 2027; identifying ministerial-level meetings to be hosted; expediting infrastructure preparations in Phu Quoc for Leaders’ Week; and launching communications, security, health, and business engagement efforts.

At the meeting, representatives of ministries and agencies reported on preparations in five major areas: agenda, facilities and logistics, communications and culture, protocol, and security and health.

Acknowledging the urgency and proactiveness of ministries and agencies, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son noted that with just over four months left in 2025, the workload remains substantial.

He requested the swift completion of the establishment and consolidation of five Sub-Committees and the Secretariat within August 2025. He also tasked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Sub-Committee on Agenda to promptly develop the theme and priorities for APEC 2027, while accelerating key infrastructure projects in Phu Quoc, especially the convention center for Leaders’ Week.

The Deputy PM further called for stepped-up communications efforts, urging the early development of Vietnam’s APEC 2027 branding identity. He also encouraged active participation in APEC 2025 in the Republic of Korea (RoK) and APEC 2026 in China to show support, deal with issues of Vietnam’s interest, and draw lessons from host countries’ experience.

The Committee’s second plenary session is scheduled for early December 2025 to review progress and prepare for activities in 2026.
