President’s decision presented to officer bound for UN peacekeeping mission
VOV.VN - The Ministry of National Defence on February 26 in Hanoi presented the President’s decision and the Minister of National Defence’s decision to an officer assigned to a United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic.
Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defence, head of the inter-agency working group and head of the Ministry’s Steering Committee on participation in UN peacekeeping operations, presided over the ceremony.
In this deployment, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hoang Long, lecturer at the Department of Foreign Languages under the Faculty of Reconnaissance, National Defence Academy, was appointed to replace Major Nguyen Anh Tuan as Intelligence Staff Officer (SO ISR) at the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
According to Major General Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, the selected officer met all UN requirements on professional competence, military qualifications, training, foreign language proficiency and health.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hoang Long has completed required UN training courses, including the pre-deployment training course (September–December 2024) and two-axle driving training (November 2024) at the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations; the UN Staff Officer Course (February 2025, Republic of Korea); the Gender in Peacekeeping Operations Course (June 2025, United States); the Public Information Course (September 2025, Indonesia); and the Vietnam-India Bilateral Exercise on UN Peacekeeping Operations 2025 (VINBAX 2025).
Assigning the mission, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang instructed Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hoang Long to ensure absolute safety throughout his tenure; remain vigilant, keep a firm grasp of developments and provide accurate assessments and advice; strictly implement the Party’s policies and guidelines, State laws, military discipline, and regulations of the United Nations, the mission and the host country.
He also stressed the need to maintain proper conduct, demonstrate responsibility, and cooperate effectively with international colleagues, thereby helping to project the image of the Vietnam People’s Army and of the country and people of Vietnam.
The Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations was requested to maintain effective rotation and replacement of deployed personnel, strengthen management and command, and ensure safety while fulfilling assigned tasks.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hoang Long said he had devised a tenure work plan approved prior to deployment; actively learned from colleagues and his predecessor; and completed induction training at the mission.
He affirmed his readiness to undertake the assignment with strong determination, strictly comply with regulations, and ensure absolute safety of personnel and equipment while fulfilling the tasks entrusted by the United Nations and the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence.
