President Luong Cuong meets Busan Mayor to advance practical cooperation
VOV.VN - President Luong Cuong met with Mayor Park Heong Joon on November 1 to discuss ways to strengthen practical cooperation between the city and Vietnamese localities during his visit to Busan as part of the APEC 2025 Economic Leaders’ Week in the Republic of Korea (RoK).
On behalf of the city leadership and residents, Mayor Park Heong Joon warmly welcomed President Luong Cuong and his delegation to Busan, expressing his pleasure at the strong development of RoK-Vietnam relations across multiple fields.
Mayor Park noted that the visit by Party General Secretary To Lam in August 2025 to announce the establishment of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Busan, along with President Luong Cuong’s current visit, would play an important role in promoting practical cooperation between Busan and Vietnamese localities.
The Vietnamese State leader expressed satisfaction that, after more than 30 years of diplomatic ties, both nations officially upgraded their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in December 2022, becoming each other’s key partners in the region. He affirmed vast potential for bilateral cooperation, adding that both sides are actively working to achieve the bilateral trade target of US$150 billion by 2030 in a balanced and sustainable manner.
He congratulated Busan on its achievements as the RoK’s second-largest economic centre and the world’s fifth-largest port city, and thanked the city leadership for actively supporting the operations of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Busan.
President Luong Cuong proposed that Busan continue to expand cooperation with Vietnamese provinces and cities, particularly in areas of the city’s strengths such as seaport operations and shipbuilding.
On this occasion, President Luong Cuong expressed appreciation and requested that the Busan authorities continue to support the Vietnamese community living, studying, and working in the city, thereby contributing to local development and strengthening the city’s role as a bridge of friendship between the two countries.
In response, Mayor Park Heong Joon expressed high respect and strong agreement with President Luong Cuong’s guidance and directions. He pledged that Busan would continue to coordinate closely with Ho Chi Minh City and other Vietnamese provinces to enhance practical cooperation in areas of mutual strength, especially seaport operations, shipbuilding, high-quality human resource training, and tourism as a contribution to the development of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the RoK.
Mayor Park also confirmed that the Busan authorities are ready to support and facilitate the activities of the Vietnamese Consulate General, while continuing policies to protect the legitimate rights of the city’s 14,000 Vietnamese residents, enabling them to integrate more fully and contribute to the city’s development, thereby reinforcing Busan’s role as a bridge of friendship between the two nations.
