PM Chinh meets top Chinese firms to boost cooperation in aviation, infrastructure
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on June 26 met with leaders of two major Chinese enterprises in Shanghai, including Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), and the China Pacific Construction Group as part of his working visit to China and attendance at the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

At the meeting with COMAC Vice Chairman Shen Bo, PM Chinh was briefed on the corporation’s efforts to advance China’s commercial aviation sector. Shen noted that COMAC is known for its C919 aircraft, is developing the ARJ21, and has launched the C929 wide-body aircraft project with a planned investment of up to US$20 billion.
Expressing confidence in the future of bilateral aviation cooperation under the guidance of both countries’ leadership, Shen proposed enhanced support from Vietnam for the operation of COMAC aircraft and cooperation with Vietnamese airlines such as Vietjet. He also highlighted opportunities for expanded partnerships in aircraft maintenance, parts manufacturing, and related fields.
PM Chinh praised COMAC’s achievements in developing modern commercial aircraft, saying they contributed to diversifying the global aviation supply chain and showed China’s scientific and technological advances.
He welcomed COMAC’s initial cooperation with Vietnamese carriers and said Vietnam is streamlining regulations to promote a dynamic aviation sector, including encouraging the participation of various economic actors and enhancing decentralization.
For long-term, sustainable cooperation, the Vietnamese Government encouraged COMAC to partner with Vietnamese counterparts in establishing aircraft maintenance services, expanding leasing and sales agreements, training human resources, and engaging in areas where the company has strengths. He suggested a phased, mutually beneficial cooperation to deepening ties.
Later the same afternoon, PM Chinh met with Yan Jiehe, Chairman of the China Pacific Construction Group, and senior company officials. The firm, one of the world’s top 500 enterprises, specializes in investment, construction, and infrastructure operations and has participated in more than 1,000 projects across China.
Chairman Yan reported that the group had signed a memorandum of understanding with Hanoi authorities for infrastructure investment and development over the next five years, valued in the billions of dollars. It is currently involved in several Vietnamese projects, including construction of Tu Lien Bridge in Hanoi, which broke ground after a previous meeting with the PM.
He shared updates on the company’s activities in Vietnam and proposed involvement in other key projects, especially expressways, while pledging to deliver model-quality work in half the projected time.
PM Chinh welcomed the proposals and applauded the group’s effective and sustainable global and local operations. He urged the firm to complete existing projects promptly and engage with Hanoi and relevant agencies to explore additional major infrastructure ventures. These include the road connecting Gia Binh Airport to downtown Hanoi, Ngoc Hoi Bridge, the Van Cao–Hoa Lac urban railway, as well as PPP participation in North–South expressway extensions, seaports, airports, railways, and metro systems in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, including a line linking Long Thanh and Tan Son Nhat airports.
Highlighting Vietnam’s push to rapidly develop its infrastructure, the PM encouraged the group to make long-term commitments, invest in training, establish a permanent presence in Vietnam, and compete fairly while ensuring rapid, high-quality, safe, and efficient project implementation.
This meeting marked the final activity of PM Chinh’s official visit to China and participation in the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions. Following the event, he and the Vietnamese delegation departed Shanghai and returned home, concluding the trip made at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President Borge Brende.
