PM Chinh attends memorial service for former Lao leader in Vientiane
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh led a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the memorial service for Khamtay Siphandone, former President of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and former President of Laos, in Vientiane on April 7.

During his stay, PM Chinh met with Lao Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.
At the meetings, on behalf of the Vietnamese Party, State, and people, PM Chinh expressed his deep sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the Lao Party, State, people, and the bereaved family. He conveyed his profound admiration for Khamtay Siphandone’s invaluable contributions to the history of Laos' construction and development, as well as to the revolutionary movements of the three Indochinese countries.
The Government chief emphasized that the Vietnamese Party, State, and people will always cherish and remember the role and contributions of the late Lao leader- a dear friend and steadfast comrade, who played a pivotal role in fostering and strengthening the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.
He expressed his firm belief that the Lao Party, State, and people would transform this loss into a great source of strength to continue building and developing Laos into a strong, prosperous nation.
In response, the Lao leaders expressed sincere gratitude and deep emotion for the condolences extended by Vietnam over the passing of Khamtay Siphandone. They also conveyed their appreciation for Vietnam’s decision to hold a two-day national mourning period, a gesture that exemplified the enduring and loyal special solidarity between the two Parties, States, and peoples, as well as the close personal ties between the leaders of both nations.
Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone expressed heartfelt thanks for the deep affection shown by Vietnam towards Laos, especially towards Khamtay Siphandone. He also acknowledged Vietnam's valuable and heartfelt support to Laos in its past struggle for national independence and in the country’s efforts for national construction, protection and development over the years.
The leaders also discussed the current socio-economic situation and priorities in each nation.
The Lao leaders announced plans to send a high-ranking delegation to Vietnam to attend the 2025 P4G Summit and the grand celebrations marking Vietnam's 50th anniversary of national reunification.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to preserving and reinforcing the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos under all circumstances.
