PM attends memorial and reburial ceremony for Vietnamese martyrs fallen in Laos
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Le Minh Hung attended a memorial and reburial ceremony for the remains of 28 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos at the National Martyrs Cemetery on Road 9 in the central province of Quang Tri on May 23.
The remains were repatriated from Savannakhet and Khammouane provinces in Laos. In a solemn atmosphere, the Vietnamese Government chief rang the ceremonial bell nine times and joined delegates in laying wreaths, offering incense and observing a minute of silence in tribute to the fallen soldiers, who sacrificed their lives for Vietnam’s independence and freedom, the people’s happiness and their noble international mission.
Delivering a eulogy at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri provincial People’s Committee Le Van Bao paid tribute to generations of Vietnamese who had devoted themselves and sacrificed their lives for national independence, freedom and reunification.
He also expressed gratitude to the authorities and people of Savannakhet and Khammouane provinces for their support in helping Quang Tri province carry out the search and repatriation of martyrs’ remains during the 2025-2026 dry season.
Bao commended the efforts of Team 584 and Team 589 under the Quang Tri provincial Military Command for fulfilling what he described as a sacred and honorable mission.
Before the spirits of the fallen soldiers, Bao said their sacrifice symbolized the great special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos and embodied the spirit of international solidarity that contributed to the revolutionary successes of both countries.
He added that Quang Tri province will continue implementing the “500-day campaign” aimed at accelerating the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs’ remains, contributing to policies for war veterans and families of fallen soldiers while promoting Vietnam’s tradition of gratitude toward those who sacrificed for the nation.
Following the memorial service, PM Hung and other leaders accompanied the remains to the burial site, scattered flowers in farewell and offered incense in tribute to the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos.
The ceremony concluded with participants expressing their determination to carry forward the path chosen by the fallen soldiers and continue nurturing the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
