Peruvian Ambassador highlights international role for Vietnam

VOV.VN - Following a number of stellar achievements recorded in terms of Vietnamese economic development and the international integration process, Vietnam has become an important member of both Asia and the wider world, according to Peruvian Ambassador to Vietnam Augusto Morelli.

The implementation of open-door policies coupled with the Doi Moi (Renewal) process over the past 35 years has served to create a real driving force for sustainable growth and economic development in the country, he told Vietnam News Agency in a recent interview.

With regard to local prevention and control measures aimed at combatting the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Peruvian diplomat stated that Vietnam does not stand alone in the fight against the pandemic as it is a global issue. Indeed, competent authorities of both countries have been taking measures in which to mitigate the impact of the epidemic whilst striving to speed up the vaccination process.

The Peruvian Ambassador therefore underscored the importance of the country’s great efforts in reviving its domestic economy whilst striking a balance between economic development and public health care goals.

Ambassador Morelli also underlined the need to promote multilateralism and globalisation as a way of ensuring the participation of each nation in terms of the global production supply chain, with both Vietnam and Peru representing emerging economies.

Both sides have therefore welcomed the implementation of practical co-operation frameworks, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), both of which have created a broad integration mechanism to help the two economies expand their markets.

The diplomat also pointed out that Hanoi and Lima shared numerous similarities relating to economic trends, the ongoing globalisation process, and trade exchanges, all of which have become crucial factors in helping both countries maintain growth and development.

As part of the occasion, the Peruvian Ambassador congratulated Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong on his re-election as the leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee for the 13th tenure.
