Vietnam, Peru hold fourth political consultation

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Thanh Son and his Peruvian counterpart Manuel Talavera Espinar virtually held the fourth political consultation at the deputy minister level on October 20.

The diplomats reviewed Vietnam-Peru cooperation in various fields and discussed measures to enhance multifaceted cooperation in the coming time. They expressed their delight at the strong development of bilateral trade and investment ties, noting last year’s trade turnover hit US$500 million, making Peru the sixth largest trading partner of Vietnam in Latin America.

Vietnamese firms such as Viettel and PVN, as well as Peruvian firms AJE and AquaExpedition are implementing direct investment projects in each other’s territory.

They held that there remains room for stronger bilateral cooperation, especially as Peru is considering ratifying the signed Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

The two sides agreed to work closely to develop their relationship, by carrying out high-level reciprocal visits, strengthening legislative cooperation, considering upgrading their partnership, as well as strengthening diplomatic and consular presence in their territories.

They also agreed to promote the Vietnam-Peru Intergovernmental Committee mechanism on economic and technical cooperation, expand dialogue and connectivity among ministries, industries and enterprises of the two countries,  and complete the legal framework to boost cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture, culture, tourism among others.

Exchanging views on international and regional issues of mutual concern, the two diplomats agreed that Vietnam and Peru will continue coordination and mutual support at international organizations and multilateral forums to which both countries are members, such as the United Nations, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) ), the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC), as well as cooperation between ASEAN and the Pacific Union.
