Peru among top important partners in Vietnam's overall foreign policy towards Latin America
VOV.VN - Peru represents one of Vietnam's most important partners in its foreign policy towards Latin America, said Vietnamese President Luong Cuong at a meeting with President of the Peruvian Congress Eduardo Sanjuana on the afternoon of November 13 (local time) in Lima.
The host leader warmly welcomed President Cuong on his official visit to Peru; emphasizing the significance and importance of the trip which comes at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
President Cuong expressed his pleasure at officially visiting the Latin American nation and appreciated the solidarity and support of the Peruvian people for the Vietnamese people in the historic cause of national defence as well as the current cause of national construction and development.
He therefore affirmed that Peru represents one of the most important partners in the overall Vietnamese foreign policy towards the Latin American region and expressed his belief that this visit to Peru will create further momentum, thereby bringing the relationship between the two countries to a new stage and developing even more strongly.
Congratulating Peru on its socio-economic development achievements recorded over recent years, the President showed his belief that the APEC 2024 Economic Leaders’ Week will be a great success, continuing to contribute to enhancing Peru's role, position, and international prestige.
The Peruvian parliamentary leader expressed his admiration for remarkable Vietnamese socio-economic development achievements in recent times, emphasizing that thanks to the diligence and development aspirations of the people and the clear-sighted leadership of generations of leaders, the nation has overcome historical challenges to enjoy rapid and stable growth and sustainable social security policies, whilst it also has friendly and co-operative relations with other countries, including Peru.
He affirmed that despite the geographical distance, the two countries have many similarities. Indeed, the host leader said that he hopes that moving forward the two countries will strengthen delegation exchanges, boost consultations, and learn from each other's experience across multiple fields.
Regarding parliamentary ties, the two sides agreed that strengthening parliamentary relations is one of the most important pillars of both nations' diplomacy, contributing to promoting the overall bilateral relationship between the two. Accordingly, it ca be viewed as necessary to ramp up linkages between specialised agencies of the two countries’ legislative bodies in training, fostering, and improving the capacity of officials. This is along with exchanging experience in research, general consulting, and organizing to serve the activities of the legislatures.
This is in addition to continuing to promote co-ordination mechanisms at multilateral forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and other multilateral parliamentary organizations whilst supporting each other's stance on regional and international issues of shared concern.
On this occasion, the President also conveyed to the President of the Peruvian Congress his regards and invitation to visit Vietnam by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man at a time suitable for both sides.
President Cuong outlined his hopes that the Peruvian Congress will pay special attention to creating conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to effectively implement investment projects in the telecommunications and oil and gas sectors in the Peruvian market, contributing to the economic development of both countries.
The congressional leader affirmed that his country’s legislative sector fully supports and will pay attention to creating favourable conditions for existing investment projects of Vietnamese enterprises in Peru, with high hopes that more and more Vietnamese enterprises will come to the South American nation to invest.
At the end of the meeting, to show respects for the Vietnamese State leader’s contributions to the positive developments in the relationship between the two countries over the past 30 years, the Peruvian Congress decided to award President Cuong the Grand Cross Order of Honor, the highest award of the Peruvian legislature for foreign leaders.
Speaking after receiving the award, President Cuong expressed his honour at receiving the Order of Honor from the Peruvian Congress, while affirming that this noble award demonstrates the Peruvian legislature's respect for the bilateral relationship between both sides. It is also a very meaningful recognition of the development of the friendship and comprehensive co-operation between the two countries on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
