Peru, Vietnam have enough conditions to elevate relationship to higher level
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Peru now have the conditions necessary to bring their relationship to a higher level, Vietnamese President Luong Cuong said at a press briefing on November 13 held following his talks with Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra in Lima.
Speaking at the press conference, on behalf of the State and people of Peru, President Boluarte warmly welcomed President Cuong and his delegation’s official visit and their attendance at the APEC Economic Leaders' Week, especially as it takes place immediately before the two countries celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
She therefore affirmed that over the past three decades, both countries have steadily advanced their friendship and co-operation, as well as deepening mutual understanding, built on a consensus across a range of bilateral and multilateral issues.
They have become important partners, the host leader stressed, saying that she and the Vietnamese State President had concurred to beef up and deepen mutual ties.
The Peruvian President affirmed that during this visit made by the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation, the two sides took part in both important and effective discussions, addressing many bilateral co-operation topics, as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern. The two leaders also held open dialogue to seek new directions of collaboration for the benefit of the people of the two countries.
In response, President Cuong congratulated Peru on assuming the role of APEC 2024 Chair and expressed his confidence that the APEC Economic Leaders' Week will be a success as a means of contributing to ramping up co-operation and connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region and elevating Peru’s role and position on the international stage.
President Cuong said the two sides should step up greater efforts as there remains huge untapped potential for economic ties, in both traditional areas like oil and gas, mining, infrastructure, and agriculture, as well as emerging fields such as digital transformation, renewable energy, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence.
The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), to which Vietnam and Peru are signatories, provides a vital framework for even closer economic integration, he emphasised.
The Vietnamese State leader stated that both sides had agreed on major directions and measures aimed at further deepening bilateral relations across a variety of fields. These include intensifying high-level exchanges and meetings, strengthening co-operation mechanisms and legal frameworks, expanding diplomatic and consular presence; whilst further facilitating business connections, trade and investment promotion, and transport and logistics links. They also concurred to boost cultural and educational collaboration efforts and people-to-people exchanges.
Both sides had issued a joint declaration on reinforcing diplomatic relations, saying they now have the conditions necessary to advance their relationship to a higher level. With strong political determination, they will work closely to soon announce the new framework.
He therefore showed his confidence that this visit will provide momentum for the two countries’ friendly and co-operative ties to grow further, meeting the interests and aspirations of their people whilst contributing to peace, co-operation, development, and integration between East Asia and Latin America.
President Cuong used the occasion to invite the Peruvian President to visit Vietnam next year, saying that the trip would mark another historic milestone in bilateral ties.
