Party General Secretary and President meets CPPCC Chairman Wang Huning in Beijing
VOV.VN- Party General Secretary and President To Lam had a meeting with Wang Huning, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on April 14 in Beijing.
In a sincere, friendly and open atmosphere, the two sides expressed satisfaction with the important progress in relations between the two Parties and the two countries in recent times.
They also shared views on the situation of each Party and country, particularly following the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and China’s successful convening of the 2026 “Two Sessions,” which adopted the outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan for socio-economic development, and discussed major directions to realize high-level common perceptions and promote bilateral relations in the time ahead.
Wang Huning warmly congratulated Vietnam on the success of the 14th National Party Congress and its socio-economic development achievements, and warmly welcomed To Lam on his first visit to China in his new position, noting that it reflects the special importance attached by the Party and State of Vietnam to the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and the Vietnam-China Community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.
The top Vietnamese leader affirmed that Vietnam hopes that through this visit it will further deepen political trust and elevate bilateral cooperation to a new level with more comprehensive and deeper connectivity, while jointly realising each country’s development goals.
To achieve this, he proposed that the two sides promote three areas of connectivity in ideals and beliefs, development interests, and culture and people-to-people bonds. He called for maintaining regular high-level exchanges, consolidating political trust, improving the effectiveness of cooperation through Party, State, Government, National Assembly-National People’s Congress, and Vietnam Fatherland Front-CPPCC channels, and reinforcing the pillar of defence and security cooperation.
To Lam also proposed that, alongside promoting traditional areas of cooperation such as trade and investment, the two sides should work together to create bright spots in new areas such as transport infrastructure development, particularly railways; step up cooperation in digital transformation and strategic technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum technologies and semiconductors; and in education and training of high-quality human resources, with the aim of enabling people to benefit from the results of substantive cooperation between the two sides.
He also suggested further enhancing the role of the CPPCC and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee in supporting and encouraging localities and mass organisations of the two countries to improve the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms, intensify exchanges and interactions, step up communication on Vietnam-China friendship as well as each country’s achievements in renewal, and jointly make efforts to effectively manage and properly handle differences at sea, thereby contributing to strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries.
CPPCC Chairman Wang Huning affirmed that China always regards relations with Vietnam as a priority in its neighbourhood diplomacy, spoke highly of achievements in theoretical innovation, and expressed support for Vietnam in successfully building socialism suited to its national conditions. Agreeing with the cooperation proposals put forward by General Secretary and President To Lam, he proposed that both sides stay on the course of bilateral relations development, jointly advance socialist modernisation in each country, further strengthen strategic connectivity, especially by accelerating infrastructure connectivity and boosting development in artificial intelligence and the digital economy. China stands ready to expand imports of goods, particularly high-quality agricultural products from Vietnam, and encourage enterprises to expand investment and mutually beneficial cooperation in Vietnam.
Wang Huning also said the CPPCC is ready to further strengthen friendly relations with the Vietnam Fatherland Front, jointly encourage exchanges among people from all walks of life, especially the younger generation, expand cooperation in education and healthcare, and locality-to locality exchanges, thereby opening a new chapter in friendship between the two countries. He added that both sides will support each other in successfully hosting multilateral events, including APEC 2026 in China and APEC 2027 in Vietnam.
