Party chief calls for immediate work on major tasks in new period

VOV.VN - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam chaired a working session in Hanoi on March 4 with the editorial team responsible for reviewing 100 years of the Party’s leadership of Vietnam’s revolution and 40 years of implementing the Platform for national development during the transition to socialism.

The meeting, held at the Party Central Committee headquarters, was the first since the steering committee overseeing the reviews was established, demonstrating a spirit of urgency, seriousness and scientific preparation in launching a major Party task in the new period.

Concluding the session, the Party leader said the country is preparing for two important milestones: the 100th anniversary of the nation under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the 40th anniversary of implementing the Platform for national development during the transition to socialism.

He noted that these milestones represent not only the passage of time but also the length of a revolutionary journey marked by sacrifice, hardship, creativity and development.

The 100-year review will look back at the entire course of the Party’s leadership of the nation, from the struggle for independence and national reunification to building and defending the socialist state; from the centrally planned economic mechanism to the comprehensive Doi Moi (renewal) process; and from a poor and underdeveloped country to one with an increasingly prominent role in international affairs.

The 40-year review of the Platform will provide a scientific, comprehensive and objective assessment of how the Party’s strategic orientations during the transition period have been implemented. It will clarify the development model, achievements, shortcomings, underlying causes and lessons drawn from the process.

Lam stressed that the work serves commemorative purposes while, more importantly, preparing theoretical and practical foundations for strategic policy decisions in the next stage of development, looking toward 2045 and further ahead to development orientations through 2130.

“For that reason, this must become a broad political mobilisation involving the entire political system, from central Party and government bodies to local authorities across the country,” he said.

The Party chief said 2026 marks the starting point and lays the groundwork for the entire review process for the 2026-2031 period. Clear deadlines should therefore be set for each assigned task, with progress monitored not only by quarter but even by month.

All work should follow concrete and feasible plans with mechanisms to track progress and outputs, he said.

He also called for scientific, modern and effective working methods from the outset, including the application of information technology and the development of digital databases. The process must follow principles of seriousness, scientific assessment, objectivity and comprehensiveness while encouraging new findings.

He said the work should combine organisational discipline with creative thinking, ensure continuity while promoting development, and link reviews of the past with orientations for the future.

Lam noted that the two review projects serve as the framework guiding the entire process. The editorial team should re-examine the scope, subjects and methods of the reviews, clarify the structure of reports, identify key thematic axes and determine approaches combining historical and logical perspectives, theory and practice, as well as review and forecasting.

They should also define final outputs and further refine core issues requiring emphasis or deeper research, ensuring that the 100-year and 40-year reviews are integrated in a logical and coherent manner with strong continuity.

On this occasion, Lam also asked the Central Theoretical Council to mobilize additional experts, scholars and historians to take part in the review process.

Once the review work is completed, its results should be promptly handed over, while efforts should be stepped up to promote communication and political theory education on the Party’s history, helping build broad consensus among the people and across society.
