Nicaraguan, Algerian media highlight significance of Vietnam’s April 30 Victory

Nicaragua's La Primerisima radio station has published a series of articles highlighting the significance of Vietnam’s victory on April 30, 1975, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 – 2025).

It featured the full text of the article "Vietnam is one, the Vietnamese people are one" by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee To Lam, which stated that the moment the liberation flag flew atop the Independence Palace at noon on April 30, 1975, became a monumental event in the nation’s history - marking the complete liberation of the South and national reunification.

“It was not only a great victory for the Vietnamese people in their arduous struggle against the US, but also a shining symbol of revolutionary heroism, the will for independence, resilience, and the strength of great national unity,” La Primerisima cited the Party chief as saying.

The article also reported and vividly portrayed the festive atmosphere in the capital city of Hanoi, and in Ho Chi Minh City, where people were joyfully celebrating “a victory over an army once considered invincible.”

It emphasised that the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, which lasted 55 days and nights, not only ended one of the fiercest wars in modern history but also marked the birth of a new Asian ‘tiger’ - a resilient, unified, and developing Vietnam.

La Primerisima, one of Nicaragua’s leading media outlets, also praised the sound leadership of the CPV and President Ho Chi Minh. Under the leadership of the Party and Uncle Ho, the aspiration for reunification became a great spiritual force, uniting the entire nation to overcome all challenges, gaining independence in 1945, expelling the colonialists in 1954, and achieving reunification in 1975, it wrote.

The Nicaraguan radio station also reviewed Vietnam’s remarkable achievements over half a century of reunification, citing an economic growth rate of over 7% in 2024. It especially highlighted the development of the capital of Hanoi, with “countless shops, schools, businesses large and small, and new residential areas,” while still preserving its characteristic historical charm around the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.

The April 30 victory is not only a source of pride for Vietnam but also a global symbol of the aspiration for freedom, La Primerisima said. It added that the message “Vietnam is one” from Party General Secretary To Lam will be the lodestar for the Vietnamese people on their path of development and international integration.

Meanwhile, on April 28, the French- and Arabic-language website of Algeria's La Patrie News also published an article praising Vietnam's past struggle and national building efforts on the same occasion. The article expressed admiration for the vibrant atmosphere as Vietnam prepared to celebrate this historic milestone.

Entitled “Celebrating 50 years of Vietnam’s national reunification: A heroic struggle for peace”, the article, written by a special correspondent from La Patrie News, described the joyful and bustling scenes in the final days of April as Vietnam prepared to solemnly celebrate the 50th anniversary of national reunification - the end of a long, arduous, and heroic struggle marked by tremendous sacrifices in the face of powerful foreign adversaries.

The author vividly depicted scenes of Vietnamese people of all ages gathering in public spaces to celebrate the victory, waving flags and smiling in triumph. The excitement of the upcoming celebrations also captivated visiting tourists. Giant posters commemorating the historic victory were displayed throughout cities, along streets and on buildings, recalling the memorable triumph.

According to the article, Vietnam's revolutionary legacy and ideology are closely aligned with that of Algeria. They are based on peace, tolerance, and reconciliation approach, with a commitment to neutrality and non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations.

Half a century after reunification, the Vietnamese people take great pride in their national history and look ahead with confidence to a bright future. Vietnam has risen strongly, steadily building a peaceful and prosperous nation deeply integrated into the global community.

The article emphasised that today, Vietnam is one of the world’s most dynamic developing countries, actively participating in international organisations such as the United Nations, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). This emerging nation, with its remarkable socio-economic development, holds vast potential, it noted.

The author expressed his confidence that the geographic distance between Algiers and Hanoi would not hinder the two countries from advancing toward a mutually beneficial and comprehensive partnership.
