Song of Triumph captures resonance of Vietnam’s Victory Day on April 30, 1975
VOV.VN - Voice of Vietnam Radio (VOV) held a special political-artistic programme The Song of Triumph at the Hanoi Opera House on April 25 evening, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 – 2025.

The programme was divided into three parts, with part 1 “Hanoi Hears the Victory News” recreating the emotional morning of April 30, 1975, when Hanoi residents first heard the historic victory announcement on VOV's loudspeakers.
Part 2 titled “Marching to Saigon” portrays the vibrant atmosphere in the South as liberation forces entered Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City), featuring historical footage, eyewitness accounts, and iconic songs.
Part 3 themed “The Nation After Reunification” reflects the renewal, integration, and development of Vietnam in the post-reunification era.

One of the programme’s most powerful highlights was the deeply moving reenactment of two historic victory broadcasts aired on April 30 and May 1, 1975 - monumental moments in radio history that have echoed through the memories of millions of Vietnamese as the resounding call of freedom and independence.
Particularly touching was the conversation with Meritorious Artist Ha Phuong, former head of the Announcers Department at VOV. He was one of the broadcasters on duty and a firsthand witness to the extraordinary atmosphere at the studio of VOV in Hanoi on that very historic day, April 30, 1975. At 84, while his memory may no longer be as sharp, those momentous days in the life of the nation remain unforgettable for him.

The event featured many well-known Vietnamese artists, including People's Artist Quoc Hung, Meritorious Artist Lan Anh, Meritorious Artist Hoang Tung, Meritorious Artist Tan Nhan, singers Dong Hung and Nguyen Tran Trung Quan, along with vocal group Oplus.
They performed revolutionary songs and famous national melodies, helping convey strong messages of patriotism and national pride.
The programme concluded with the song Vietnam, We Move Forward - a heartfelt call to today’s generation, reminding all that the cause of national construction continues. Over the course of one powerful hour, the Song of Triumph unfolded as a musical manifesto of faith, aspiration, and patriotism, capturing the enduring spirit of a proud and resilient nation.

The programme left a lasting impression on the audience, especially among the older generation who had witnessed the historic moment of April 30, 1975.
“I heard the victory broadcast of April 30 on the radio when I was just a ninth grade student. Tonight, hearing that same voice again, I felt as though I were reliving that unforgettable moment in history,” said Nguyen Thi Mai Huong, 63, a resident ò Ba Dinh district.
The programme is part of activities taking place across the country in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification.
