Grand celebration marking 50 years of Vietnam’s national reunification

VOV.VN - The Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and Ho Chi Minh City authorities solemnly held a grand anniversary marking the 50th anniversary of southern liberation and national reunification in Ho Chi Minh City on April 30.

The celebration was attended by Party General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee President Do Van Chien.

Former Party General Secretaries, former Presidents, former Prime Ministers, former National Assembly chairpersons, along with other Party and State leaders were also present at the event.

The celebration also saw the presence of military and police generals, war veterans, volunteer soldiers, families of war martyrs and social policy beneficiaries.

Fifty years ago on April 30, 1975, after a rapid and decisive offensive by the Liberation forces, Saigon, the stronghold of the Saigon puppet regime, completely fell, marking the end of the US-waged war, known internationally as the Vietnam War, the liberation of the South and the reunification of Vietnam.

The celebration on April 30, 2025 is a significant occasion for all Vietnamese people to reflect on a heroic chapter of history, affirming the sacred values of independence, freedom, and national unity. This anniversary is not only a time to honour the fallen heroes who sacrificed for the cause of national liberation but also an opportunity for every Vietnamese citizen to feel proud of the achievements made over the past 50 years in building and developing the country.

The milestone of April 30, 1975, marked the end of the war and ushered in a new era for the Vietnamese people - an era of peace, unity, and development. It is also a moment to affirm the clear-sighted leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the unwavering determination of the entire nation in the cause of building a strong and prosperous Vietnam.

The 50th anniversary is a time to look back on the journey of 50 years, from a divided and war-torn country to today’s Vietnam - a country that is rising strongly and integrating deeply into the international community. Achievements in economic development, improvements in people’s lives, and the defence of national sovereignty demonstrate the strength of unity and the relentless efforts of the entire nation.

Moreover, this event is an opportunity to strengthen the great national unity, connecting generations, especially the youth, so they can understand and appreciate the value of the peace, independence, and freedom that their ancestors fought for. It is also a chance to encourage them to continue contributing to the development of the country.

The anniversary also sends a strong message of peace to the international community, asserting that Vietnam is a country committed to peace, stability, and sustainable development, always ready to cooperate with the international community to build a better world.
