NA agrees to rename 'extraordinary session' as 'irregular session'
VOV.VN - The National Assembly agreed to rename "extraordinary session" as "irregular session" in the revised Law on Organization of the National Assembly which was passed on February 17 afternoon during the ongoing ninth extraordinary session in Hanoi.

At earlier discussions, many NA deputies raised concerns over the term "extraordinary session" and suggested adopting a more appropriate name.
Numerous lawmakers welcomed the National Assembly's decision to hold irregular sessions to promptly deal with pressing national issues. However, some noted that the term "extraordinary session" sounded "a bit intense" and called for a definitive change in terminology.
Acknowledging these concerns, the National Assembly Standing Committee reviewed proposals from deputies and decided to amend the law, replacing "extraordinary session" with "irregular session."
Under the new regulation, the legislature will continue to hold two regular sessions each year. An irregular session may be convened at the request of the State President, the NA Standing Committee, the Prime Minister, or at least one-third of NA deputies. These sessions are held to address urgent matters within the National Assembly's jurisdiction, ensuring timely decisions on socio-economic development, national defence, security, and foreign affairs.
Additionally, the NA Standing Committee plans to further refine the numbering system for both regular and irregular sessions to ensure consistency in future tenures.
Lawmakers expressed consensus on the renaming in the revised law.
