Minister of Public Security hopes for broader co-operation from Switzerland

VOV.VN - Minister of Public Security General To Lam has asked Switzerland to bolster co-operation in resource development, as well as training in transnational organised crime prevention and control, cyber security, as well as efforts to combat terrorism and drugs.

At a recent reception held in Hanoi for Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam Thomas Gass, Minister To Lam said that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam highly appreciates the active co-operation of the Swiss Embassy in Vietnam and the Ambassador. Indeed, this has made an important contribution to fostering the relationship between both sides as well as boosting co-operative ties between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and relevant Swiss agencies.

To boost links between the Ministry of Public Security and Swiss law enforcement agencies, Minister To Lam proposed that the two sides increase the exchange of delegations at all levels moving forward.

This is whilst accelerating the possibility of negotiating bilateral agreements on extradition and transfer of sentenced persons; and establishing a bilateral co-operation mechanism in the fields of security, crime prevention, and control.

This is along with intensifying the exchange of law enforcement experience, crime information, and co-ordination in the fight against transnational crimes involving the two countries. Relevant issues include transnational organised crime, drug crimes, terrorism, high-tech crimes, and human traffickers.

The Vietnamese Minister also underlined the need to improve the capacity of law enforcement officers of the two sides, including foreign language training; skills to detect passport checks, fake documents, and anti-illegal immigration; and information analysis and processing skills.

Both sides must therefore work to strengthen consultations, the exchange of information, co-ordinate support, and help each other in the process of signing, joining, and implementing international treaties to which both sides are members. This should be done in order to positively and effectively contribute to multilateral cooperation mechanisms at the UN and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL).

On this occasion, Minister To Lam proposed Switzerland share information on anti-terrorism and support advanced training for Vietnamese air security forces.

Furthermore, the Minister expressed hope the Swiss side would offer favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community to stably do business and live legally in Switzerland, thereby making positive contributions to the development of the host nation and enhancing its role as a bridge to reinforcing the precious traditional friendship between the two peoples.

For his part, Ambassador Gass emphasized that Swiss authorities always place importance on and wish to strongly advance relations with the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in all areas of mutual interest, especially in public security and the fight against crime to ensure security and order in each country.

The Ambassador affirmed that he will make every effort to foster the joint relationship between in general, as well as between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and law enforcement agencies of Switzerland for the benefit of the people of both countries.
