Lao PM hails results of Vietnam-Laos scientific and technological co-operation
VOV.VN - Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone received a delegation of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) on August 7 led by Prof. Dr. Chau Van Minh, member of the Party Central Committee and president of the VAST, who paid a working visit to Laos.
The meeting saw Prof. Dr. Minh report to the Lao Prime Minister on the working results of the delegation held with the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications. The two sides held the third bilateral meeting and discussed the implementation of two contents that were supported by both Governments for the purpose of co-operation at the 46th bilateral meeting, which are the construction of a large database centre project to serve digital transformation, the fourth scientific and technological revolution, and the construction of an earthquake disaster information warning centre in Laos.
To create a premise for implementation, the Institute of Geophysics of the Academy and the Institute of Applied Research of Smart Technology of the Laotian Ministry of Information and Communications have co-ordinated efforts to deploy the Joint Laboratory on Data and Communication on Natural Disasters, which was inaugurated on August 6. The delegation also requested that the Laos PM continue to support and facilitate ties between the VAST and Laotian research and training units moving forward.
Laos PM Siphandone highly appreciated the delegation's visit and working session in the neighbouring country, as well as the co-operation programmes between the VAST and Laos ministries and sectors, especially the Laos Ministry of Technology and Communications.
He said that the Lao Government attaches great importance to the development of science and technology, suggesting that the two sides continue to work together in training high-quality human resources and sharing experience in the fields of science and technology.
The Laos PM has therefore proposed that the VAST send experts to help in areas of mutual interest. He affirmed that the delegation's working visit in the neighbouring nation this time will further contribute to consolidating and strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive linkages that exist between both sides, as well as between the VAST and relevant agencies of Laos.
Also within the framework of the working visit, the Vietnamese delegation and the Laos Ministry of Industry and Trade also discussed the scientific basis and potential for developing a food safety laboratory in Laos, pharmaceutical products, renewable energy, and the direction of developing biological products in agriculture and medicine, as well as assessing geological and mineral potential and mining development.
