India hosts official welcome ceremony for Vietnam's top leader
VOV.VN - Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 6 jointly hosted an official welcome ceremony at the Presidential Palace in New Delhi for Party General Secretary and President To Lam and a high-level Vietnamese delegation on a state visit to India.
A cavalry escort accompanied the motorcade carrying Party General Secretary and President To Lam into the Presidential Palace compound as a 21-gun salute was fired in his honour. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed To Lam upon his arrival.
As Party General Secretary and President To Lam stepped onto the reviewing stand beneath the national flags of Vietnam and India, the national anthems of both countries were performed by a military band.
Following the parade, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, together with Party General Secretary and President To Lam, introduced members of their respective delegations attending the ceremony.
At the conclusion of the welcome ceremony, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited To Lam to pose for photographs with Indian students and people.
Vietnam and India have continued to deepen ties in recent years, with bilateral relations becoming increasingly substantive. The establishment of the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016 marked a major step forward in bilateral ties.
The two countries currently maintain more than 20 bilateral cooperation mechanisms across multiple sectors and have signed numerous important agreements guiding bilateral relations. Economic and trade cooperation has expanded strongly, with bilateral trade reaching around US$15-16 billion annually in recent years. India is currently among Vietnam’s top 10 trading partners.
Two-way investment has also continued to expand with nearly 500 projects, while substantial room remains for further breakthroughs in bilateral cooperation.
Vietnam and India are also rapidly expanding cooperation into new areas such as science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, clean energy and satellite data. Cultural exchanges and people-to-people ties between the two countries have also grown strongly in recent years.
The two countries also maintain close coordination and mutual support at regional and international organisations and multilateral forums.
The state visit by Party General Secretary and President To Lam and his delegation to India also shows the foreign policy direction set out by the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese State for the new era under the Resolution of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
The policy centres on independence, autonomy, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, alongside the multilateralisation and diversification of foreign relations and Vietnam’s role as a responsible member of the international community.
