Top leader lauds Vietnamese community’s role in promoting Vietnam-India ties
VOV.VN - Every Vietnamese citizen abroad plays a direct role in promoting the country’s image, culture, and values to the world, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam said during his meeting with the Vietnamese community in India on May 5.
“You are people-to-people ambassadors of Vietnam,” he told the expatriates, calling on them, especially younger generations, to continue preserving the Vietnamese language, cultural identity, and national pride, while integrating actively into local society.
He also encouraged Vietnamese professionals, students, and intellectuals in India to strengthen connections with institutions at home, contribute ideas, and participate in innovation networks that support Vietnam’s development.
For businesspeople and workers, the Vietnamese leader highlighted the importance of leveraging growing Vietnam–India cooperation to expand trade, investment, and supply chain linkages, describing overseas Vietnamese as a vital bridge between the two economies.
Reaffirming the Party and State’s policy, the leader stressed that overseas Vietnamese are “an inseparable part of the nation” and a key resource for national development.
He urged community organisations to enhance cohesion and support systems, while calling on the Vietnamese Embassy and representative agencies in India to serve not only as diplomatic bridges but also as a reliable pillar for citizens living abroad.
According to Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai, the Vietnamese community in India numbers more than 1,200 people, maintaining strong unity and earning respect from local authorities.
The meeting took place as part of the top leader’s state visit to India, which is expected to further deepen the Vietnam–India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, particularly in areas such as technology, education, and economic cooperation.
