Former ambassador sanguine of growing Vietnam-Russia ties
VOV.VN - The diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Russia have consistently progressed, growing both intensively and extensively, and now at its highest level of the comprehensive strategic partnership, former Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrey Tatarinov has said.
In a recent interview with the media in Russia, Tatarinov emphasized the importance of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, describing it as a milestone in bilateral relations.
He noted that since Vietnam's total liberation and reunification in 1975, the Southeast Asian nation has made significant strides, achieving many remarkable accomplishments.
Drawing from his many years of diplomatic service in Vietnam, Tatarinov pointed out the legacy of the longstanding ties between Vietnam and the former Soviet Union, which continue with Russia today. Over the past 75 years, the two nations have remained close friends, even before the official establishment of diplomatic relations.
This enduring relationship was solidified through many years of mutual support during Vietnam's struggle for independence and freedom, especially during the 1980s when the country was working hard to rebuild its post-war economy.
Both countries also collaborated closely during the 1990s to implement the “Doi Moi” (renovation) process in Vietnam and the reforms in the former Soviet Union. In 2001, during Russian President Vladimir Putin's first visit to Vietnam, their relationship was elevated to a strategic partnership, which was further upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2012.
Tatarinov also stressed that Putin's first state visit to Vietnam, immediately following his re-election in 2024, serves as the clearest evidence of the sound relationship between the two countries.
Both nations now have all the necessary conditions and tremendous potential to expand their cooperation further, Tatarinov concluded, noting that in recent years, their bilateral relations have become increasingly mutually beneficial and more equal.
